After getting the bags from the car and putting them in the living room. I went to my room and dropped off my bags before I went to the guest room that was two doors down. Knocking on the door twice as I heard Zaylee tell me to come in. I opened the door; she was on her laptop sitting on the couch in front of the bed, looking at Hulu. “You know you have an entire bed, right?” I told her, as I put the bags by her and took a seat next to her. “Yeah, I know, but I don’t enjoy being in bed with my clothes on.” She said as she looked my way. “So, what are you watching?” I asked her while she scrolled through the selections. “Uh, I don’t know. I want to watch Christmas Vacation, but it doesn’t seem right without my dad.” She said somberly. I nodded, then my head jerked back towards her. “You mean National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation?” She nodded her head slowly as she slanted her eyes. “You sure we ain’t family or something?” I chuckled while running my hand through my hair. “I’m pretty sure we’re not. Why?” “Because it’s a Jarrett tradition to watch that movie at least three times before Christmas.” He laughed. “Oh wow. We just watched it once while opening one gift for Christmas Eve,” she told me while closing her laptop. “Damn, since you’re the guest, we gotta watch it tonight after dinner,” I said, getting up from the floor. “Oh no. We don’t have to do that!” She protested, but I waved her off. “Nah, it’s cool. Trust me. My dad would love that someone likes the movie as much as he does. I remember one year he and my mom had a huge fight because he recreated the house and it almost caught on fire too.” I laughed heavily at that one because it was when South Carolina was in their bi-polar year of it being eighty degrees in December.
“Did he sing Joy to the World while y’all did the drum roll too?” She stood up to get her carry-on and opened it. Looking at her with a straight face, I nodded as she tried to hold the laugh that was oozing out. “At least he didn’t go crazy on the shit when they didn’t come on.” Laughing at my comment myself.
