“Ok, so the house will be completed before the wedding, and once again, I apologize for the delay, but a lot of things happened in my personal life that I could–.”
As I could tell she was rambling, I put my hand over Solani Liberty’s hand, and I smiled at her.
“Solani, I understand love—no need to explain yourself, boo. As long as it’s finished before October, that’s all we care about. You’re still getting paid the full amount.”
She took a deep exhale before she nodded and returned to her ideas for the nursery. Many things have been amazing for Sonny and me since we found out I was pregnant. For one, we moved into a lovely one-story, three-bedroom house outside the city. However, we chose to build our dream house together since the one baby I thought I was having turned out to be two. I still remember Doctor Grant telling us in my appointment during my third month.
Flashback
Sonny just got off the road against Atlanta, and I knew he was dog-tried but refused to miss out on my appointments. I didn’t get this support from Lance when I was pregnant with Liam, so I am truly blessed I have it with him.
“Ah, my favorite couple!” Doctor Grant said as he came in with his award-winning smile. He was a fine-ass doctor, about 5’10, bulky yet lean, cinnamon brown skin and a bald head. Today he wore navy blue slacks and a gray button-up with Jordans on his feet to match. After dapping up Sonny and kissing my cheek, he asked me to lay back as the nurse came in. Doing what I was told, the nurse squirted out the cool blue gel on my stomach as Doctor Grant turned on the ultrasound monitor. We already knew we were having a girl because we just wanted to know. Me and Sonny aren't big on the whole gender reveal thing, not to mention between our parents we were going to have the baby shower of the year. The sound of my baby’s heart brought tears to my eyes as Grant swirled the wand around.
“Hmmm. This is new.” He said as his brows were hunched together.”
“What’s going on?” Sonny questioned with his eyes glued to the screen.
Doctor Grant stated as he typed something on the computer and zoomed in.
“As you can see, baby girl is right here, but it looks like she was in front of another baby.”
“What!? Are you telling me I’m having two babies?” I yelled.
“Baby, calm down.” Sonny tried to calm me down, but I shook my head.
“Sonny, we only got ready for one. We gotta get more clothes and more diapers and more–”
Sonny leaned in to kiss me to shut me up. As my body relaxed into his arms, tears started to flow down my cheeks.
It’s common for you not to know you’re having twins. Your body has changed but not in a significant way. Plus, you told me you would tire from standing briefly the last time we were here. Is that still going on?
Shaking my head, no, “Sonny or Liam have been making me sit down if I feel any dizziness.”
“Liam saw her get cookies, though.” Sonny muttered, which made me cut my eyes at him before he responded, “Quit being a big baby. You already know we’re on a no junk food diet.”
Since Liam officially became a Roswell, he has been acting like his stepfather. I couldn’t do anything except go to the bathroom and sleep with Liam.
“It was one time, and I didn’t eat them. They weren’t the right Oreos I like. I whined about it.” I whined.
“Well, Cherish, besides the new surprise, everything else looks great; your blood sugar and pressure are normal, and you’re gaining weight at a healthy amount and drinking water which is a great thing.” He titled his head the big orange water bottle that was on the countertop.
“Now let’s see how baby b is doing.”
As he began to check out baby b, more tears started to fall and I really wailed when he told me it was another girl after cleaning me up and handing me and Sonny the pictures we collected for every trip. We scheduled my appointment for two weeks, and sent us on our way.
I smiled widely as we walked to Sonny’s brand-new Kia Telluride, knowing that Liam would flip out. He was already in big brother mode once we told him he would have a little sister, but now he will turn it up.
Once inside, I leaned over to open the door for Sonny. Once he was in, and leaned over to my side and put my seatbelt on. Before he did the same, I kissed him on the lips deeply. We stayed like this for a few moments before he pulled back.
“What’s that for, baby?” He smiled as he used his thumb to wipe my bottom lip.
“Thank you for blessing me not once but twice with your child. Just coming to every appointment and snitching on me.” I giggled at the last part as he shook his head.
“Cherry, I know you didn’t have this support with that fuck nigga when you had Liam. Even if I can’t make it, you have my moms who can support me. You got a family, baby. And now that I’m having girls and twins at that. I need to sharpen my aim with these guns I bought.”
“Omg! Sonny, they aren’t even here yet, and you're already going Bad Boys Two!?”
Turning the car on and driving out of the parking lot, he reached over to kiss my hand before he replied, “Hell yeah! Shit, I don’t need anything to happen to my kids on my watch, and I don’t need anything to happen to you, either. Once we get to that delivery room, and you feel the slightest pain, and no one does anything, I’m airing that motherfucker out! Send me to jail once I know all three of you are healthy and alive!”
I knew he was serious about that part. A black woman while pregnant is a scary ass feeling. The high death rate, because doctors tend to realize something is wrong with the mother until the babies are born, is cruel. I was so blessed that Doctor Grant had an opening, he was Kendrick and Racheal’s doctor for their four kids, and so far, he’s been doing a great job as ours.
Kissing his hand and rubbing it, “I love you so much, Sonny. I can’t wait to be Mrs. Roswell.”
When we reached a red light, he turned to me with the biggest smile, “You already are in my and God's eyes, baby. We just must sign the papers. Call my moms and tell them to come to the house and Facetime your parents and Jordin. We gotta tell them we have another blessing on the way.”
You’ll find out how the delivery went in the upcoming book, Always & Forever! Coming in October 2023!!
Ps- The twin girls will be five months old when you start Always in Forever.
